Child Nutrition Reauthorization

Help seek additional funding for child nutrition programs.

Agriculture Committee Chairman Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) introduced the Healthy, Hunger Free Kids Act of 2010, her mark for Child Nutrition Reauthorization, which was unanimously passed by the Senate Agriculture Committee on March 24. On June 10, House Education and Labor Committee Chairman George Miller (D-CA) released his bill for Child Nutrition Reauthorization.

Seeking additional funds for Child Nutrition Reauthorization is a top priority.

The White House, U.S. Department of Agriculture and Senate Agriculture Committee Chair Blanche Lincoln (D-AR) are all committed to finding additional funding – above the Senate Agriculture-passed bill ($4.5 billion/10 years) and closer to President Obama’s proposed $10 billion/10 years.

Click here to take action on this bill and to urge Congress to invest additional funding to improve access to nutrition assistance for low-income children and achieve the goal of ending childhood hunger by 2015.

Advocates Discuss Child Nutrition Programs with D.C. Congressional Representative Eleanor Holmes Norton
advocates with Eleanor Holmes Norton A delegation of District anti-hunger advocates -- including representatives from D.C. Hunger Solutions, the American Heart Association, Capital Area Asset Builders, Capital Area Food Bank, D.C. Legal Aid, Summit Health Institute for Research and Education (SHIRE), So Others Might Eat (SOME), and the Washington Legal Clinic for the Homeless -- journeyed to Capital Hill to meet with Congresswoman Eleanor Holmes Norton (pictured) about the importance of a strong child nutrition and WIC title and about how the District can become an Afterschool Supper Program state, which would provide thousands of nutritious suppers to hungry children in afterschool programs in the District every year.
