SNAP/Food Stamp Outreach at Five Free Tax Sites

D.C. Hunger Solutions is teaming up with the D.C. EITC Campaign to provide SNAP/Food Stamp outreach at five free tax sites in the city.

Often people who are eligible to receive the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) also are eligible to receive SNAP/Food Stamps. Together, EITC and SNAP/Food Stamps could mean more than $9,000 per year in benefits for a family of three with one minimum wage worker. Pairing outreach for these two programs erases many of the barriers that people encounter when trying to apply for SNAP/Food Stamps, resulting in extra benefits for families that are struggling.

This year, nearly 50 D.C. Hunger Solutions volunteers are talking to people at five different tax sites, including two with primarily Spanish speaking clients. While waiting for available tax preparers, people can:

  • learn if they are eligible for SNAP/Food Stamp benefits;
  • get assistance filling out the application and understanding the process;
  • learn about other food related benefit programs.

Find out more about the D.C. EITC Campaign, who is eligible for this service, the location of the sites, and the hours of operation by visiting the Campaign’s website.
