April 26, 2005 - DC Free Summer Meals Program: Sites Needed. Did you know that community organizations, nonprofits, out-of school time programs, churches, housing complexes and apartment buildings in low-income areas could receive FREE tasty and nutritious meals delivered right to children and youth at your site all summer long?

November 4, 2004 -  Food Stamp Workshops Give How To's to Enroll. Do you know someone who might qualify for food stamps? Food stamp workshops presented in partnership by Bread for the City and D.C. Hunger Solutions help families understand the program's benefits and get help completing the application.

October 31, 2004 -  Acting Head of Agency Lauded as a 'Breath of Fresh Air.' Last summer, Deborah Gist agreed to a request from her boss, D.C. Mayor Anthony A. Williams, to take over an important city agency that had become the target of so much criticism that its director had been forced to quit. Three months after Gist became interim director of the D.C. State Education Office, several key problems are being fixed.

September 29, 2004 -  USDA Awards $15,000 For WIC Special Project Grant. On Tuesday, September 28 Secretary Ann M. Veneman announced the award of $15,000 in grant funds to the District of Columbia for one year to develop their concept paper into a full grant proposal on how to improve consumption of fruit and vegetables among WIC participants. A total of $1.7 million in grant funds were awarded to seven States and the District of Columbia to help develop, implement, and evaluate new or innovative methods of service delivery to meet the changing needs of WIC participants. The grant awards are part of USDA’s Food and Nutrition Service (FNS) Revitalizing Quality Nutrition Services in WIC (RQNS) initiative. The goal of RQNS is to improve and strengthen the effectiveness of WIC nutrition services.

September 29, 2004 -  USDA Awards $379, 557 To D.C. For An Excellent Participant Access Rate In The Food Stamp Program. On Monday, September 27th Secretary Ann M. Veneman announced the award of $379, 557 to the District of Columbia for exemplary participant access rate during FY2003. This award is part of an $18 million award sum given by USDA to states that demonstrated timely provision of services and ensured access to nutrition assistance in the Food Stamp Program. This award, an outcome of the 2002 Farm Bill, is meant to recognize the importance of customer service in administering this critical nutrition program as well as encourage it.

July 22, 2004 -  D.C. Schools to Offer Better Vending Choices. Vending machines in D.C. schools will sell healthier snacks and fruit juice instead of junk food and sodas

April 21, 2004 -  While Federal Nutrition Programs Reach Many, Thousands More People And Federal Dollars Are Left Behind.
D.C. Hunger Solutions called on the District of Columbia agencies and community-based organizations today to better maximize the use of federal nutrition programs
