Government Shutdown 2025: SNAP & WIC Update (October 22, 2025)
Home / Updates and Announcements / Updates and Announcements / Government Shutdown 2025: SNAP & WIC Update (October 22, 2025)
We understand that the ongoing federal government shutdown may be causing worry and uncertainty. We want to reassure D.C. residents that SNAP (Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program) and WIC (Women, Infants, and Children) benefits are still available at this time.
- Keep using your benefits — SNAP and WIC cards are still being accepted at authorized grocery stores, markets, and other participating retailers.
- Keep applying and recertifying — New applications and recertifications for SNAP and WIC are still being processed. Don’t delay applying if you think you may qualify.
- Don’t skip your appointments — Continue attending scheduled WIC appointments or submitting requested information for SNAP. This helps avoid any interruption in your benefits.
- Stay informed — We’ll continue to share updates as more information becomes available about how the shutdown may affect federal nutrition programs.
Access to healthy food is essential, and we encourage you to make use of all available resources. If you need help applying or have questions about your benefits, contact:
